Chicks With Hits are a unique and talented female song writing team based in Brighton, UK. When Phillipa and Ellie first started writing together they realised they were on to a good thing! Both girls already had years of experience in the music industry touring, recording and performing, but decided their real passion was for song-writing. By combining Phillipa's vocal talents, Ellie's instrumental skills and their shared determination & humour, they formed Chicks With Hits. The girls have been working hard together building a catalogue of songs in a variety of styles, from catchy pop to emotional ballads to cool electronica. Their songs are now being heard on hit US TV shows (Desperate Housewives, Greys Anatomy, One Tree Hill, Men in Trees), European pop chart radio and international commercials.
Phillipa's versatile voice can be heard on many of the CHICKS WITH HITS songs. As a session singer she has also performed and collaborated with many other talented acts, including the Lo Fidelity Allstars, Indian Ropeman, Modaji, Defected Records, Blackgrass and Hardkandy. She has an established career as a voice over artist and her clients include: Playstation 2 'Juiced', X-box
'Mirrors edge' L'Oreal, Britney Spears Perfume, Lynx, Tresseme, Aquafresh, Kelloggs, Lynx, Levi's, Aquafresh, Sibelius, Volvo and BarryM.
Her character voices can be heard on many of the Moshi Monsters songs, as the voice of a baby elephant on the CBeebies/NatGeo show 'Mama Mirabelle' and Cally the rescue train on the US Chuggingtons. Phillipa is about to play one of the lead characters in the forthcoming Moshi Monsters movie. Her sultry version of Sunday Girl by Blondie received national press and was used for the Mail on Sunday's ad campaign.
As if this wasn't enough to make her throat sore, she re-incarnates herself by night as Shirley Bassey, Judy Garland, Nina Simone & Billy Holiday in her jazz duo 'Gardenia'.
Ellie studied classical violin and piano to diploma level and now puts her musical talents to good use as a studio string arranger. She has worked string arranging and performing for the legendary Nick Cave, the No1, million selling, album of Dutch star, Caro Emerald , LA's finest The 88, The Stereo MC's, Jason Nevins, DJ Format, Fink, Rubylux and many more. She also works closely with BAFTA winning PlugIN Media to create the music for children's TV.
Ellie spent six years touring all over Britain and the USA as a violin and keyboard player with a signed indie band. Her session work also included appearances on 'Top of the Pops', 'the Chart Show', 'Good Morning', the 'BBC TV awards' with Westlife and 'The National Lottery'.
She also gets her live kicks in a very serious ukulele band, 'The Ukes of Hazzard' and with Brighton's answer to the Penguin Cafe Orchestra "Lighthouse" and the Worthing Philharmonic Orchestra.
